Stephon Marburyのスニーカーが $15で

Knicksの Stephon Marburyの新しいシューズが発表されたようです。ここで読めるかな。これが新しい試みで、なんとこの靴 "Stabury One"って言うらしいですが $15なのです。Steve & Barry’s University Sportswearというところが販売元。契約は去年からしているそうですね。ちゃんとこの靴を試合中も使うそうです。

Marbury曰く

“You just can’t afford it; spending $200 for a pair of sneakers, that was unheard of,” he said during a telephone interview yesterday. “I would never go ask my mother for that. That was going to be an automatic no.”

「スニーカーに $200払うなんてありえないんだよ、そんなに払えるわけ無いだろ」「母ちゃんにそんなのねだったことすらないよ、駄目って言われるのはわかりきってるし」。

エゴが強すぎてその能力がチームの強さに還元されない場合が多いプレイヤーですが、子供達のために靴を安く提供したい、そしてそれを実現させたっていうのは非常に高く評価します。ただ、現実に Marburyが子供のときにスニーカー調達に苦労したかといえば、そうでもないらしい。子供のころからその能力は注目の的だったのでスニーカーを提供したがる取り巻きはいっぱいいたとか。

この件に関しては、Isiah Thomasの影響もあったそうです。

In addition to cost consciousness, Marbury said the idea of getting behind a low-priced shoe came out of conversations he had had with Isiah Thomas, the Knicks’ president and coach. Thomas got Marbury to think about doing something that mattered, creating a legacy in basketball outside of statistics. Marbury said that Thomas spoke with him about the civil rights movement that skipped over Marbury’s generation.
